Our History

Attention: open in a new window. Print

Heritage Isle Credit Union was founded by a group of Comalco employees in 1965 and since then we have grown to a membership in excess of 7000.

Heritage Isle is a community credit union, open to all but primarily servicing the needs of residents of northern Tasmania with four branches in locations throughout the Tamar Valley.

Credit unions are financial co-operatives owned and democratically operated by the people who save and borrow with them. Essentially this means that all our profits come back to the Credit Union and its members rather than going to shareholders allowing us to provide more competitive fees and rates.

As a Heritage Isle Credit Union member, you are also a part owner and adult members have the right to vote at the Annual General Meeting, and subject to qualification, the option to stand for a position on the Board.

Heritage Isle Credit Union is part of a worldwide credit union movement. There are 93 million credit union members in 87 countries around the world. Australia has 3.5 million credit union members, which means 1 in 5 Australians take advantage of the credit union difference.

Our Mission Statement is: "At Heritage Isle, we're focused on helping our members achieve their goals."
